Thailand has 5000 years agricultural history, Thai jasmine rice is the long grain rice which is well known for its fragrance and taste all around the world.


In 1945, KDML was discovered in Chonburi province. KDML is also known as 'White Jasmine' in Thai language. Ministry of Agriculture started to select and carry out experiments with this species of KDML rice in Lopburi province, and try to grow the selected rice in the northern and north eastern part of Thailand. On 25th May 1959, it was officially announced that this species of rice would be named 'Thai Hom Mali Rice' (or KDML 105), which also one of the most important consuming products in Thailand. Until recent day, there are KDML 105 and RD 15 in Thailand.

The best quality Thai Jasmine Rice are grown mainly in the north eastern provinces such as Roi Et, Ubon Ratchathani, Burirum, Sisaket, Surin and Yasothon. Due to the most suitable environment factors, such as the ample amount sunlight throughout the year, amount of rainfall, the best taste of Thai Fragrance Rice can only be grown in these provinces. 


The additional processes in rice industry is very advance in Thailand. When rice arrives at the factory, the humidity is measured, as well as its roughness, milled rate and nutritional values. These factors will determine the price of the rice. The rice then will be going through cleaning and drying process, and store under suitable condition. The automatic processes which are widely used include selecting, peeling, milling, filtering, color choosing, polishing, removing debris, classifying and packaging. The polishing process is very advanced in Thailand and the controlling of the moisture, as well as humidity, are very strict in Thailand.

How to identify authentic Thai jasmine rice?

1 It must be indicated the origin of the rice, written as 'product of Thailand'

2 It must contain 885 barcodes, which indicate that it is packaged in Thailand. 

3 It must indicate 92% purity. 

4 The original package printed the source of origin in green. 

5 Thai originated packages must be printed CCIC (Thailand) Co., Ltd
