Brazil's coffee exports to China rose by 23.1%  in the first five months of 2019 compared to the previous year, according to a report of Brazilian Council of Coffee Exporters (Cecafé). The survey showed that Brazil had shipped 88,179 bags of coffee to China between January and May this year. According to the latest data of Chinese Customs, China imported 5,643 tons of coffee from Brazil in the first half of 2019, an increase of 62% from the same period last year, with a total value of more than US $3.36 million and a 24% year-on-year increase.

Nelson Carvalhaes, president of the Cecafé, said that this was mainly due to increasing demand from young Chinese consumers and increasing investment by Brazil in the sale of coffee to China. “China's thriving coffee shops now encourage the youth to drink coffee in various ways," Carvalhaes explained, “The rapid growth of coffee shops such as Luckin Coffee and Starbucks in Chinese cities have huge attractiveness for the younger generation of consumers."

According to statistics, from June 2018 to June 2019, Brazil produced 38% of the world's coffee and exported 41.1 million bags worldwide. Carvalhaes said that the Brazilian government and coffee producers were looking for opportunities to expand the China market. As China is one of Brazil's major trading partners, to achieve greater growth in the China market, Brazil's enterprise will provide a variety of coffee to meet the needs of different walks of life and people.
