China is ready to host the second China International Import Expo, said Assistant to Commerce Minister Ren Hongbin during a press briefing in Shanghai on Saturday. Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan hosted a banquet Monday evening in Shanghai to welcome distinguished guests from around the world, who are here to attend the second China International Import Expo (CIIE).
Xi and Peng had photos with foreign leaders and their spouses, including French President Emmanuel Macron, Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness, Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabic.
By holding the CIIE and proactively expanding imports, China is taking the initiative to pursue a new round of high-level opening up, deepen international cooperation in advancing the Belt and Road Initiative and jointly foster an open global economy, Xi noted.
According to the registration, Among the 64 country pavilions, 24 are new to the expo, participating countries hail from all five continents
Over 3,000 enterprises from about 150 countries and regions have signed up for this year's CIIE, including more than 250 of the world's leading companies. Also, more than 500,000 professional buyers have registered to visit, a huge increase from last year.
