Russia, which covers the Eurasian continent, owns the largest national territorial area. From the Chinese point of view, the Russian people are bold and aggressive, but few people know about the Russian booze and food. In fact, chocolate, candy, cake, ice cream, seafood and beer from Russia are very popular among Chinese foodies.

China is one of the largest importers of Russian seafood, importing a large number of Russian marine fish, such as frozen cod, frozen salmon and frozen mackerel as well as some shellfish, shrimp, crab and holothurian. In 2018, China's total imports of Russian seafood reached 1.09 million tons, and the import value was 2.1 billion US dollars. Among them, the import volume of frozen Alaska pollock is 512,000 tons, accounting for nearly 50% of the total imported Russian seafood. The second larger imports were frozen Pacific salmon (166,000 tons), frozen herring (152,000 tons) and frozen cod (101,000 tons).

In addition, from China Customs data, the Chinese people seem to love Russian beer. The Russian malt beer imports reached 19.81 million liters in the first half of this year, ranking No.1 in the field of imported Russian wine, followed by the famous vodka with 430,000 liters.

Snacks are also a category that cannot be ignored. In the past two years, the colorful and diverse Russian candy has captured the heart of Chinese consumers with its rich and sweet taste. According to the statistics of Manzhouli customs, from January to may this year, about 10,000 tons of Russian candies were imported under the supervision of the customs. The trade value had reached 26.21 million US dollars. Compared with the same period last year, the import volume and the trade value increased by 38% and 26% respectively. In addition to seafood, booze and snacks, poultry from Russia like frozen chicken wings and frozen chicken claws are also imported by China currently.

At the beginning of June this year, Sino-Russian relations were repositioned and established as “comprehensive strategic partnership for the new era." The leaders of both sides signed a joint statement to carry out market access cooperation on agricultural products and expand the trade of high-quality agricultural products.

As Chinese consumers' needs for imported food and drinks are increasing, in addition to the stable and positive Sino-Russian relation, Russia's agricultural product exports to China have been rising since 2018. Some popular Russian foods, such as seafood, booze, flour, honey, butter and nuts, are particularly attractive to Chinese consumers.
